MARCH 26, 2017 – KEY WEST, FLORIDA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 0
Our first day started out great – watching the sunrise at Mile O, the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA. But as the day progressed, we learned there was less diving and more driving planned for us than we knew…(like zero dives and 340 miles of driving!). Read about the chaos here of trying to get into the water on our first day of the roadtrip!
MARCH 27, 2017 – CRYSTAL RIVER, FLORIDA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 533
Day Two was a fantastic success filled with gorgeous, back-road driving and swimming with manatees in the Crystal River! Check out the photos of Adam and I up face-to-face with these gentle giants!
MARCH 29, 2017 – VORTEX SPRINGS, FLORIDA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 903
Day Three and Four we traveled to Vortex Springs to find a HUGE fresh water spring filled with caves, caverns and fish we had never seen before! This place was a major shock to the senses!
MARCH 30, 2017 – TOPSAIL HILL PARK, FLORIDA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 968
Day Three and Five we camped at Topsail Hill Park. We had no idea the incredible sea life we would find at this beautiful park including this deadly gas-filled sack! For ocean lovers like Adam and I, this place is hard to beat!
MARCH 31, 2017 – LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN, LOUISIANA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 1,278
Day Six was a test of how far we could happily drive in one day. Turns out, it was far enough to find the world’s longest bridge and one of the most epic sunsets imagineable. Glowing ball over the ocean photos here.
APRIL 1 & 2, 2017 – HOLLY BEACH, LOUISIANA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 1,578
Days Seven and Eight were just awesome adventures. Comparing ourselves to outlaws in a movie, we felt constantly on-the-run, making informed decisions like navigators without compasses and amateur weather forecasters. Christine tried her hardest to cook outdoors even in ripping hurricane winds! We attracted stormy craziness for several more days and carried it though several states. You are welcome Louisiana.
APRIL 3 & 4, 2017 – DAISY STATE PARK, ARKANSAS
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 2,145
Days Nine and Ten found us searching for precious gems in a farmers field and exploring raging rivers. Arkansas showed us some unbelievably beautiful views of lakes and river valleys and one of the most breathtaking campsites yet! By the end of day ten our bad luck with weather was coming back!
APRIL 5, 2017 – DRIVE TO NEBRASKA
MILES DRIVEN TOTAL: 2,887
Day Eleven Christine and I had an early, storm induced start. We pushed through 4 states and into Nebraska in one long day of driving. The weather turned from sunny and warm to stormy and cold in just a few hundred miles. Time to switch from flip flops to boots!
